Temehea tohua is the ancestral home of Vaekehu, the last queen of Taiohae. The site is located on Nuku Hiva, the largest island of the Marquesas Islands. This island is unique for its strange statues which some raffigurerebbero terrestrial creatures. There are many who want to unravel the riddle of the sculptures Temehea tohua: are the fruit of the imagination of Polynesian settlers, or the testimony of a former close encounter? No doubt, the original meaning and purpose of a large amount of prehistoric art is beyond our comprehension.
Often, what had been considered as the figment of an ancient artist turned out to be an accurate testimony of historical facts. It could also be the case of the enigmatic statues Temehea tohua? The amazing statues are located on the island of Nuku Hiva , the largest of the Marquesas in French Polynesia. Europeans have reached the Marquesas only in the last decade of the 16th century, but according to some recent studies, the first settlers came from Samoa around 2000 years ago.
Legend has it that ‘Ono, the god of creation, he promised his wife to build a house in one day, so he picked up the earth and created the island of Nuku Hiva.
Interestingly, the original name of the Marquesas Islands was “Te Fenua` Enata “, which in the southern dialect means” Land of Men “, a name which, according to some scholars wanted to mark a difference with the land inhabited by” foreigners “.
And, in fact, some statues on the island of Nuku Hiva seem to represent beings from another world! Certainly, do not present the appearance of the first human inhabitants of the island. Some sculptures show beings with disproportionately large heads, large eyes and mouths wide open; in some cases, there is a weird Disney miscellany of human traits and aliens.
Groups of beings seem to wear what to modern eyes seems to be a helmet.Interestingly, in all these representations beings show a fierce appearance.
The dating of the statues is uncertain. Some scholars think they can trace the beginning of the 2nd millennium AD, but may be much older.Certainly, their origin and their meaning remains an unsolved mystery.
Why our ancestors felt the need to carve statues of monstrous beings with large eyes, elongated heads and other features terrifying? Whoever they represent, beings seem to be wearing some kind of dress, similar to the space suits of modern times.
Are representations of ancient priests strangely dressed, of evil spirits to be resisted, or, as claimed by the theorists of the Ancient Astronauts, the testimony of an alien contact occurred thousands of years ago?
Representations similar to those of the island of Nuku Hiva are present worldwide. Some of them are truly amazing, such as figurines of stoneAnunnaki discoveries in Iraq, the reptilian Mesopotamia, or the Nomoliof Sierra Leone.
Therefore, the sculptures of Nuku Hiva are just the result of artistic imagination with a simple ritual role? Or, it is yet another indication that “someone” could have interacted with our ancestors by altering the normal evolution of the human species?
What is certain, is that in either case, the statues of Nuku Hiva are not human beings.
